The Bond House at 179 Runnymede Rd in West Caldwell, NJ, was built around 1820 by Samuel Bond, a teacher from Connecticut. The house expanded over the years, with the addition of a north portion in the 1830s and a four-room addition on the west side. It features discrete Georgian features typical of local landowners' homes. The original structure consisted of one room with a fireplace hearth and sleeping loft, while the north portion added eyebrow windows and a center hall with a staircase. The house showcases hand-split wooden lathes, hewn beams, and pegged construction. The clapboards are Connecticut-style rabbeted weatherboards. Make this home your own with so many possibilities to bring it to modern day living while still enjoying the character of the original architecture. Rooms are generous sizes thruout. Two wood burning fireplaces enhance this home.
